What is Screen Printing?

Screen printing is a method that involves the passing of ink through a screen onto one of many different relatively flat surfaces. The mesh screen used in the printing determines what the final image will look like. This screen is somewhat of a stencil.

There are other tools used in screen printing as well. A squeegee and ink are very important in the screen printing process. A large amount of thick ink is placed over the screen, the squeegee then pushes the ink through the frame to create the image. The ink is then heated as a curing process.

Any surface that can be stretched and printed on can be screen printed. Many of the posters, signs and t-shirts that you see have been screen printed. There are even screen printings on public transportation.
